Barton Springs Pool is a sacred Austin institution fed by natural subterranean limestone aquifers maintaining a crisp 68°F year-round. Originally revered as spiritual sacred waters by the Tonkawa and Coahuiltecan peoples, the springs served as temporary Spanish missionary sites in the 1730s and were settled by frontier pioneer William Barton in 1837.
